Small Sized Faith Can Move Great Mountains

“I am at a place right now where I feel as though my faith is being severely tested,” my friend said to me one day.

“What evidence of truth do you have to prove that is really the case?” I replied.

I had never witnessed my friend Susan (not her real name) in this kind of mood. She seemed withdrawn.

Her words were negative, which clearly indicated to me that her thoughts and her immediate frame of mind were also spiralling on a negative path.

Susan continued, “For the past eighteen months now,  I have  been praying and believing God for a breakthrough in my relationship with my boyfriend Tom, but each time I think that I am getting to that place, it’s as if God gives me the silent treatment. I am beginning to think that God hates me.”

“Don’t say that Susan!” I quickly responded. “God loves you and He wants what is best for you.”

“He is not a man that He should lie to you. He keeps His word on His promises and He will come through with the fulfillment of it in the time that He has appointed. Have faith in God, because I am a living witness that small sized faith can move some of the greatest mountains.”

I can guarantee this truth: This is what will be done for someone who doesn’t doubt but believes what he says will happen: He can say to this mountain, ‘Be uprooted and thrown into the sea,’ and it will be done for him. ~ Mark 11:23 (GWT)

there is hope

His Ways and Thoughts Are Not Like Man’s

So many of us today are like Susan in the way that we respond to our faith being tested and tried.

We tend to think that God is moving a bit ‘slow’ and so we either take matters into our own hands to force His or, we grow cold in our attitude towards Him and loose the momentum we once had.

And if we are truly honest with ourselves, when God makes a promise to us, we would rather that He skip the testing and trial of our faith part, and get right to delivering the package to us.

Signed. Sealed. Delivered. No time for waiting. It has to be now.

But that’s not how it works. True that faith without the evidence or the manifestation of that which you hoped and believed for in the first place is dead.

However, in between the time that the promise was made and the fulfilling of it, we will have to endure the refining moment, also called the process.

So many want the promise but would rather not go through the process because the process if often times very painful. The pain so great that we cry ‘real’ tears.

In our eyes it appears as though everyone else is moving ahead of us and so we tend to feel left out or left behind. However, here is what is written in James 5:11 (GWT) –

“We consider those who endure to be blessed. You have heard about Job’s endurance. You saw that the Lord ended Job’s suffering because the Lord is compassionate and merciful.”

What’s the point? We are blessed when we have to endure the test of times and the trial of our faith. Life is a journey and we will have many experiences. But consider the words of Helen Keller when she said, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence”~ Helen Keller

don't give up

Keep Calm, Don’t Give Up! – Wait for the Promise

I fully subscribe to the words of Bryant McGill as stated in this quote below.

“There is a simple path to follow, that appears only when you calm your mind. It leads you on a beautiful journey back to your original self; the perfect, beautiful you.” ~ Bryant McGill

Waiting is not easy I agree, but so much beauty can come in the end out of us waiting and trusting God. He knows the exact time when we are ready for each blessing that He promised to bestow upon us.

We may think that we are ready for the blessing when it was revealed but then there has to be preparation so that when the promise is finally fulfilled we know how to handle it and take the best care of our inheritance.

In that moment in time, it is evidenced that my friend Susan began to loose hope. She doubted the promise maker and so began to entertain negative thoughts. God’s promise again is that He will keep in perfect peace those who keep their mind entirely focused on Him.

He will not fail you. He will not leave you out in the cold. Just keep calm, pray, don’t give up! Wait on the promise, remain unwavering and steadfast because small sized faith have a way of moving the greatest mountains!

Your Turn

Can you identify with Susan’s situation? What was your response when you after all the praying and the waiting, it still seemed like the blessing was taking a long time to come to reality? Share your thoughts below.

  1. Hi Yvonne,

    Great Article!!

I do relate to Susan!! We do lose faith and hope sometimes but I experienced GOD in my life and I know he has my best in mind. When we lose the faith, it is the devil trying to make us doubt GOD and rob us from the peace and joy that we find when close to GOD, as this is his job in this world but I don’t lend him a ear anymore because I know my GOD and his plan for my life.

Thanks Yvonne for sharing Susan’s story. Have a great week ahead.

    Be Blessed,

    Neamat

    • Hi Neamat

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your feedback.

Satan’s plan is to steal, kill and to destroy. And one of his tactics is as you mentioned to cause us to doubt God. The moment that doubt creeps in then true there goes ones peace and joy.

But God wants us to stand and having done all to stand and keep on hoping and trusting Him. Susun’s story is so relatable and is proof that no matter how saved a person is or how strong their faith is, that person is not off limits to the tricks, schemes and devices of the enemy.

But in God we trust and our battles He will fight as long as we let Him have His way.

God bless you and have a great week.

  2. I can most definitely relate to Susan. I was in her state of mind last year when I received one of the biggest disappointments of my life. I had so much faith, worked really hard, fasted, and was ready to receive. But I didn’t receive the results I wanted, and as a result, I became angry, bitter, and hurt. I moved away from God, even losing my faith in Him. It was until recently that I finally let go of my anger and bitterness, seeing the big picture. God definitely had a plan for me, and it just wasn’t the right time last year. Now, I move forward with new dreams, trusting God and myself once again. This trial molded my character into something better and stronger. Without it, I wouldn’t have changed in such a positive way. And you’re so right. We need to find hope and joy in the process because that’s where living happens. Thanks for a great article!

    • Hi Sammy,

Welcome to my blog and thanks for sharing your testimony with us.

God is the best Father that anyone of us could ever have. He is the only one with the blue print and even the fine print for our lives. He knows the beginning, the in between and the outcome. He also know when we are ready to receive.

I have had instances before when I didn’t quite have the understanding of how faith really works, to the point when I first read the scripture Hebrews 11:1 where it begins “now faith is the substance,” I somehow thought that once you have faith the thing is supposed to happen like right now or immediately. I didn’t realise that I had to wait or that there was a process.

So I can relate to becoming angry with God in the past and became frustrated to the extent that I did things out of fear which is quite the opposite of faith. I made a mess and still had to end up humbling myself to God for Him to clean up the mess I made

But it must be a good feeling that you can now see the big picture and that you now realise that God has a great plan for your life. Trials and testing of our faith is to help us to grow and to build and strengthen our character.

Thank you for your valuable comment. Have a blessed week. Cheers! 🙂

  3. Hi Yvonne,

It’s so comforting to know it only takes a tiny bit of faith for God to work in powerful ways. I need to be honest, I don’t like the testing trail part of it. I love me some God and I love our relstionship but I tell Him and many others, if there was a way I could have this personal relationship with Him without the trails I would.

Sometimes we pratice faith and don’t know it. When our friends share honestly about their feeling towards God they are practicing faith. It’s so small they don’t realize it.

There going to be times when our friend’s faith disappear but we are not surprised because there was a time we felt the same way. That’s why God send them to us so they can survive off our faith.

    Great post!

    • Hi Vernon,

I can say the same that I do not like the things that I have to endure at times, ie. the testing and trial of my faith. Truth be told that is where I feel like absconding. lol! For real.

But guess what, the process is absolutely necessary and the end results we come out better than pure gold. A diamond gets its shine, sparkle and value after it goes through the harsh process. Joseph endured the process and went from the pit, to prison and eventually, the palace.

It was thought to be an evil thing but God meant it for good.

Have a blessed weekend. Thanks for your continued support and encouragement.

  4. I like your post Yvonne, it is very timely!!!! The world we are living in today is very fast paced, both physically and mentally. Everything is done in a hurry, even the length of time we sleep at nights or should I say ….in the mornings – 3:00am to 5:00am. The same way we try to get things done hurriedly, is the same way we expect God to move hurriedly to meet our needs. We feel we must have our needs met NOW or we are ready to give up, blame God and help ourselves. This is why many people walk away unfulfilled, dis-satisfied and angry with God. We are encouraged by the word of God to …wait on the Lord…..and while we wait we are to ……be of good courage….. we can trust God and be confident enough to know that HE is well able to perform that which HE has promised. Without faith it is impossible to please God – Hebrews 11:6. For every promise there is a process. For us to have a beautiful chair to sit on, or a house to live in, we must first process a tree in the forest. For us to have a glass of delicious grape juice, we must first allow the grapes to go through the pressing and likewise the olives for pure olive oil.

    • Hi Ava,

In addition to your comment which by the way is well stated, I am reminded of a scripture that says (paraphrase) it is sin if we come by a thing or partake of something in which we did not have to exercise faith for.

What this is telling us is that faith and patience go hand in hand. Faith works best when we exercise patience with it. God is not man that He would lie so once He promised it, we can be sure He will deliver in the time He has appointed. It’s a matter of waiting.

      Have a blessed weekend.

  5. Hi Yvonne!

Of course I can relate to Susan! I think every honest person can!

I had moments where I felt that God was silent and I told him that if he is silent I can just as good stop talking to him at all. Mode of a 3-year old. But it is then important to hope and trust in the goodness of God even if I don’t understand a situation. And I have accepted that some things happened but I will never ever understand why.

The problem with praying for the behavior of other people is the free will that is so precious to God. Sometimes we just have to pray from a different angle for wisdom and open eyes.

    • Oh llKa, I love the transparency associated with your comment. 🙂 I have had that type of conversation with Him some years ago in a situation that I was dealing with. But then after a ‘little while’ I still had to come back to Him like a little child.

I knew I could not handle the situation so what good would it have done me, had I continue to be cold with Him. Guess what, His love is truly amazing and He forgives even when we act like spoiled children. 🙂

The important thing is to hope and to trust Him and like you also said, to pray from a different angle and ask for wisdom and guidance. Great comment!

      Have a blessed weekend. 🙂

  6. Hi Yvonne

I can relate to Susan’s situation. Sometimes we think that God is deaf and that he is not hearing us. After all if he does hear us then why do we feel that he is silent. That is just what we think of God. We try to use our thoughts to put God in a box.

The truth is that God isn’t silent neither is he far from us. He promised us that He will never leave us. We must realize that at the brink of suffering God is there with us. He is making us calm. How else can you explain the peace that comes when we put your trust in Him.

No matter the situation, Jesus is still saying that He will give us rest despite our troubles and situations. That is the God I know.

Thanks for this post. Thumbs Up Yvonne

    • Well said Ikechi. And remembering correctly, He knows exactly what our needs are. He says even before we are done praying, He already answered our prayer. It is a matter of us exercising patience and waiting for the promise. I still say that He wants what is best for us and will stop at nothing until we get blessed.

Thanks for your support as always. Have a great weekend. 🙂
