Children Are A Heritage And A Gift To Us

Children are an heritage of the Lord; the fruit of the womb is his reward. ~ Psalm 127:3 KJB

There is a certain level of pride and joy that illuminate in my heart the moment that I look into the beaming eyes of my children. They are grown yes, but the love is getting stronger with the passing of time.

The feeling is much the same with my 28 month old grandchildren. And with them, the memories of their parents when they too were little is as fresh as the dew in the morning.

They bring me happiness.  They make me smile and at times, they have me bursting with laughter. 🙂 I love their innocence,  something that I wish they never loose. [note I said wish]

For those of you who are reading this post and have children or grandchildren, natural born, adopted or spiritual sons and daughters, I am certain that you too can identify with my shared thoughts and emotions.

Children are a reward and a gift from the Lord. They are precious, and are to be accounted as blessings and not burdens. They are God’s jewels, not pawns or possession.

In spite of the good children are meant to be to us, sadly, very often we hear or we read about the suffering of children how they are being treated,  raped, sold into slavery, kidnapped to be made as war criminals or forced into marriages and some are even auctioned off on the black market to the highest bidders.

Here is our opportunity to pray fervently for them and to pray with them. Another part of our duties as parents also is to teach them to pray. Prayer changes everything.

Let’s not forget to teach them the word of the Lord, His laws and commands.

Remember, we are to train up a child in the way he should go so that when he is old/er he will not depart from the training and teaching you would have instilled in him/her when they were a young child.

PRAYER

We thank you Lord for our children,  the blessing that you have given to us. We ask for your divine protection, and for covering them under your precious blood.  Keep them from harm and danger and from every fiery dart of the enemy.  We pray for your guidance as we raise them. As you teach us may we in turn impart and instil godly values and principles for them to be outstanding citizens in Jesus name,  amen.

YOUR TURN:

What activities do you engage in with your children to ensure that they stay on track so that they grow up into responsible adults in society?

  1. Children are indeed precious to us. When I think about the word of God in the latter part of Psalms 23 which says.”…and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” This tells me that even though I will not be here on earth for ever, my children’s children and my continuous generations to come (as long as the Lord tarries) will be in God’s house worshipping the Lord and living for him……forever. So even when I have passed and gone on into eternity, my children, my precious jewels, will run on with the baton. God bless their souls and may the Lord grant strength to all the children worldwide. May they all find his peace, mercy, protection, healing and provision each day of their lives.

    • Amen, well said Pastor Ava! It gives a sense of peace and comfort even in troubled times knowing that no matter the storm of life or the weather, they will live for Him and be in His house forever.

  2. Hi Yvonne,

You are absolutely right in all that you wrote 🙂

Children are a blessing indeed, and a gift from God. We need to treasure these precious jewels and look after them by bringing them up as responsible human beings, those of us who are parents and grandparents too.

We are blessed too to have children of our own and it’s a pleasure to see them grow, though you know well enough how the teenage years can get! But having gone through that phase, we know it won’t last long, so one shares all one can with them, with the limited time in hand, wishing we had more of it. I guess even the kids remain busy with their studies, but thank goodness we have the weekends and holidays in-between to be with each other, isn’t it?

No specific activities, just talking with them, listening to them and how their day was spent is something I feel every parent must do. Times always to be taken out for the families – how you do it, it’s up to you.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead 🙂

    • Hi Harleena

Great to see you and thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. You raised a very good point – apart from everything else, children need to be listened to and who better to do that than us parents. I also see a gap in this area especially since parents can become so busy with work, many hours are spent at the office so that by the time one gets home, there is little time to do anything else.

Children are a blessing and therefore must be cherished. Parents must do everything in their power to ensure the best for children in whatever stage they are in life – even when they are grown, there are times they reach out to us for advice. 🙂

Have a great day and rest of the week.
