Exclusive: 41 Best Kept Secrets About Me You Should Know

“The more transparent we become about who we really are, [our joys in life, struggles, limitations, insecurities and even our deepest fears] the more we give others the freedom to see the real face of our humanity without the covering of a mask and in turn they are more willing to draw closer to God in their humanity.”

________________________________________________________________________________

I recently read a post 100 Things About Me by Jenny Blake that to me emphasized the art of honest introduction. That gave me inspiration and even led me to some online research. I was absolutely amazed at the number of posts that are out on the web with persons sharing random tidbits about themselves.

I typed these key words “things most of us don’t know about me,” in Google and approximately 1,110,000,000 results were found within .61 seconds.

For those of us with blogs and business websites, our about page and social media sites carry the marks of identification of who we are in the business world. But beyond that, and by all means with the exception of just a few, our personal life is heavily guarded and there are some things about us that we don’t ever want anyone else to find out.

Then there are those things that even though we are miles apart from each other physically, we are almost certain someone else have those same things in common with us.

It is what makes us special. It is what draws us closer to each, connects us and help us to create a common bond together as a community.

Moreover, we ask ourselves the question like Sherman Smith did in this guest post at Adrienne Smith’s blog who should we really connect with in the blogosphere

I believe it is the things that we take time to share about ourselves with each other or how we introduce ourselves to the world that helps us to make that very important decision.

So journey with me in these few moments as I [re-] introduce myself to you.

Exclusive - My Best Kept Secrets [Yvonne Wilson]

Hi everyone, my name is Yvonne Ideta Wilson. I was born on the beautiful 36 square mile Caribbean island of Nevis. I migrated to Tortola in the beautiful Virgin Islands back in 2002, the same year that my mom transitioned. My dad also transitioned some years ago while I was still a young girl attending High School.

I have a younger brother and two older sisters. I have three precious daughters and two grand children who are about to turn 3 years old on September 20th and 23rd respectively.

1-I’ve always been a writer, it’s my passion – Well this one is not so much of a secret LOL but I just had to get it out there. Writing is my way of processing things and from ever since I was a little girl, I would write notes on bits of scrap papers. Later on I began to keep my notes in note pads and now in diaries.

2-I have notes, journals and diaries from as far back as 2002 – who thinks that’s weird? Well oddly enough there are times that I do refer back to some of them. Mostly my past experiences – where I was, what I was going through at the time, the scripture I may have read and what I did to help me get through those things.

3-My mom discovered I had a high school sweetheart through a love letter I wrote and I forgot to hide away – Without the guess work, that surely got me into some hot water. And on that day, both my mom and a very good family friend of ours sat me down and gave me a good scolding.

4-As a little girl I hated doing the dishes – Whenever it was my turn I would take coins from my piggy bank and give it to my two nieces to help me wash the dishes.

5-I flunked Maths in high school – I did so poorly on my school leaving exams, my work could not even be graded. LOL! 🙂

6-I landed my very first job at the age of seventeen – It was right after I finished high School and I entered the Nursing profession

7-I am deeply spiritual and is turned off by religion – which to me I view religion as a form of imprisonment. I focus instead on having a relationship with the Creator while I am here on earth and I believe and look forward to the life hereafter.

8-Forgiveness and gratitude are huge priorities in my life – forgiveness sets me free and empowers me to love, while gratitude births happiness and attracts more blessings into my life.

9-I am a neat freak – I hate clutter. Everything must be tucked away in their rightful place.

10-I believe in second chances – not getting it right the first time gives me an even greater opportunity to try harder the second time around and to make it right

11-I am very optimistic and positive about life – I believe everything will work out for my good even when things are not going the way I had anticipated

12-I believe everything happens for a reason – I therefore choose not to worry like I once used to

13-I love to travel – one day I will travel around the world. Your country might very well be my first stop on that journey

14-I am a strong introvert and due to that character trait, I love spending a lot of time alone – For years it was a mystery to me why I pulled away to be by myself until I found out it is my personality preference. Yes of course with my blog and social media sites I am on the internet a lot but ever so often, I withdraw to get myself refilled before I can join the world again.

15-I avoid crowds as much as possible – being in crowds tend to drain my energy and make me tired. To get back into the flow of my vibration I pull away into a silent retreat. Of course this goes back to me being introverted who draw my strength and energy from within, while on the other hand an extrovert love crowds because that is where they draw strength and energy from.

16-Going to the Dentist scares the heck out of me – I had a very bad experience many years ago in high school while having an extraction done

17-The thought of growing old with gray hairs scares me – it is not so much the growing old part but getting the grays 🙂

18-I sleep in very minimal clothing – [yes, I do] especially during the summer and I can do without all of it when I am alone at home

19-I can rarely say no to something sweet – I try to stay away but most times it is hard to resist

20-I love, LOVE coffee far more than I love tea even though I know the coffee is not good for me – yep, the caffeine tend to give me a light headed feeling

21-I am a plant lover. I do pot gardening on my porch – they bring newness and a freshness to my life each time

22-I love the rainbow and the colors within it – there is no pot of gold at the ends of the rainbow but looking at the rainbow, gives me hope for the future

23-I hate going to unproductive meetings

24-I get very irritated and annoyed when someone’s phone rings out loud in the middle of a meeting I think it is very disrespectful. I just believe the phone should be placed on silent or vibrate mode and if one does get a call, leave the meeting room to take the call.

25-I enjoy listening to a wide variety of music – I find music to be very relaxing and it helps to relieve stress. I sing and do my dance as I am driving along in my car.

26-I am very romantic at heart – I love strong and is very passionate.

27-I enjoy being pampered – I believe we were all created to be treated special and I rarely wait on someone else to pamper me. I do it myself

28-I am willing to give marriage another try – I am past believing that my marriage will end in divorce again.

29-My family means the world to me – I love them dearly especially my children and my two grand babies.

30-I am very reliable and dependable – you can count on me to honor my word and do as I promised.

31-I love being prepared and hate being taken off guard – everything I would need is at my fingertips.

32-I am self motivated and very confident about who I am – it never used to be that way. For years I was very negative, hated my life and everything I was going through and had low self-esteem. All of that change once I learned the art of positive self talk and positive thinking.

33-I am a serious minded, no none sense person – beyond that, I believe I do have a sense of humor. I strike a balance because there is a time and place for everything

34-I am a critical thinker and I am open to criticism – this can be positive or negative. If it’s the latter, I search myself to look for opportunities for improvement

35-I am passionate about helping others to grow, to develop and to become the best version of who they were created to be

36-I enjoy giving freely to others – this is a gift and I believe and live out daily the principle, ‘it is more blessed to give than to receive.’

37-I believe in saving for a rainy day and plan on being ‘filthy’ rich one day – God’s desire for us is to have wealth and that’s the reason He gives the power and strategies to get it.

38-I love designer clothing – it gives me a sense of royalty.

39-I usually get Monday blues – it is the first workday right after the weekend and have I difficulty getting a jump start. Tuesdays are better for me, by then I am ‘thawed’ out.

40-I am terrified about skydiving – would never attempt it even if I am offered a huge fortune

41-I plan to write a book about my life, someday! – my life is fun. I’ve had many ups and downs, good times and bad times, and experiences that have taught me the tough lessons in life. I am a work in progress. How about you?

    Hi Yvonne ma’am,

I know it takes courage to talk about our likes and dislikes on the Internet. And you did it so gracefully. Completely enjoyed reading this post. I too am an introvert and I occasionally work to empower introverts on the Internet and in real life too. For me being an introversion is the BEST gift I have ever received. I’m so proud of myself and all my fellow introverted friends because they ALL rock (including you)! 🙂

I too avoid crowded places and my maths is a bit weak like yours. haha…. 😀

Oh I find many other common traits between us. I too am a no-non-sense person but that doesn’t mean we don’t have fun. 😉

Do consider writing a book about your life, from what I’ve read (a little) about you, I think that will be a great inspiring and empowering piece. I wish you all the success today and always. 🙂

    Rohan.

    • Hi Rohan

SO good to see you – your presence is always so refreshing. Thanks for sharing such kind and encouraging words and for being so supportive.

I am glad to hear that we have many traits in common. 🙂 I think we have mastered the art of identifying the people who share like or similar traits with each other – it did not take long for me to realize that your personality preference is introversion, hence the similarities

I am proud of you as well for being able to accomplish so much in your life, especially the short period that we connected online. It speaks volume to your level of determination and your willingness to go after your dreams in life despite the challenges and the adversities that you meet along the way. We tend to have a harder time because people often mistake our kindness, quietness and being reserved as a sign of weakness. But that is so far from the truth.

Thanks for the vote of confidence and for giving me the nudge to write a book about my life. In due season, it will come. 🙂 Have a great weekend.

Hello Yvonne, now I get to know a little more about you. Interesting. But most of these things don’t really seem to be secrets. If I stay close to you, I would readily notice most of them.

I laugh out loud at the scene of your mom finding your love letter (playing in my head.) I can imagine what the scolding would have looked like, followed by a very scary unplanned sex education. Hahaha.

We quite have a lot of things in common too, like love for travel. I equally don’t like maths, though I managed to pass them. Lol.

Good job. It takes a lot of courage to open up your innermost self to the whole world like this. I admire that. Just like you, I may write an autobiography too.

    • Hello Toby,

Oh you’re so funny! You had me laughing hard as well 🙂 Yes my mom was ever so strict! Whipped my but at age 17 – I swore it was the last time she would beat me. 🙂 Imagine telling me at that age not to go to the beach – I defied her order and went only to get a Caribbean style whopping. Okay no more laughing

On a more serious note though, we can usual identify persons who have similar or like traits/personality like ourselves. That comes from paying close attention the the writing and the topics that are mot frequently written about.

Like I mentioned to Vernon, I’m going to hold you to writing your autobiography and I am looking forward to seeing the post very soon on your blog.

Thanks for stopping by and weighing in on this. Have a great week ahead.

  3. Hi, Yvonne

As I read your post, I thought reading my own secrets. We have some much in common.
I love coffee; I can’t function very well without a good strong cup of coffee first thing in the morning. I am an introvert. I don’t like to go to dentist. Traveling is one of my passion.
Now I really know something about you.

    -Stella

    • Hi Stella,

Welcome to my world. I figured out that much already that we do have some things in common – just could not pin point what they were, so yes now I know Lol 🙂

It’s great though to see how people cross paths here online and while the physical distance is what separates us, we share some similarities hence, that connection and the bonding for friendship.

      Have a great day.

  4. Hi Yvonne

I see a lot of similarities. It is great that you share a lot about yourself.

I am surprised that you are introvert and you seclude yourself from people. The funny thing is that I stay away from crowd too. I tend to be alone like you. I love critical thinking… I love being dependable too

This is really interesting. Thanks for sharing this post.

    • Hi Ikech,

So good to see you. It is so nice to learn a few things about you as a result of this post.

Aside from visiting each other’s blog and commenting which is more on the business and professional side, I am very much about building strong personal relationships and friendship with the ones I interact with online So I thought to take the lead and get some tidbits and facts about me. I trust that others among us will follow. 🙂

Have a great weekend. Enjoy and thanks for stopping by.

  5. Wow! That was pretty cool.

As I was reading your list I seen a lot of similarities.

For instance, I come across as serious at times but by the same token people say I should have been a comedian. :D:

Also I listen to a wide variety of music.

One thing that took me aback was you being an introvert. I would have never guessed that one.

Now you have me thinking about writing a post like this.

Thanks for letting us get to know you a little bit more.

    Vernon

    • Hi Vernon,

As an old proverbial saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. 🙂 I am sure if you give it deeper thought there are more things that we have in common. 🙂

I have a reasonable great sense of humor [when I’m ready] but tend to be more on the serious side. I ask myself so many times for someone like me being an introvert and camera shy at that, how did I get into the blogging world? So yes I agree you would not have figured out that I have a strong personality preference of being introvert.

I am holding you to writing a post like this one. Would love to learn more about you. Have a wonderful weekend

  6. Hi Yvonne

So good to know about you in that much details and much happy to see a lot of qualities in you as being a great human being as well as a very responsible, caring and courageous mother.

Green habits and being spiritual are you such wonderful qualities that always make you positive, optimistic and courageous to face any situation with smiling face.

I have highest regards for your feeling about others, doing great for helping people and also equally enjoying your own life.

Those who take everything as first and last chance in life never do much in this world that is why believing in 2nd try is the attitude of winners.

Thanks a lot for sharing much in detail about you as who deserves to know more about you that your loyal blog community and of course I am one lucky soul of them.

Have a great and fantastic week ahead.

    • Hi Mi,

Oh wow, I am flattered by your comment. Such kind words you always speak about me. I am encouraged by your level of loyalty to reading my blog and leaving such value added comment.

I am always interested to know more about others, especially those in my inner circle of life. So I thought why not, if I take the lead and share personal facts about me, then someone else may follow that lead. It’s about building a strong bond of friendship and community among each other.

Thank you so much for gracing us with your presence. I trust that you are having a great weekend thus far and looking forward with anticipation of the wonderful things in the upcoming week.

  7. Hi Yvonne,

Well that was fun and I appreciate you mentioning Sherman’s guest post by the way. I love that he was sharing about connecting with people and I know that I enjoy getting to know others as well so this was really a great way to go about telling us more about you.

I knew you were born in the islands and where you lived now. I discovered that about you when I first ran across you.

Let me just tell you right now Yvonne, don’t worry about getting old. I’m not afraid to tell my age but I’m a LOT older than you my friend and I still don’t have any grey hair. Age is just a number so don’t let that bother you at all. Just keep enjoying life because there is so much still to live and explore.

I appreciate that you shared more about you with us and loved that you listed them in this way.

Really enjoyed this post and will be sure to share it so others can stop by and get to know you as well.

    Enjoy your day.

    ~Adrienne

    • Hi Adrienne,

I am so thrilled to see you once again. I am mindful that you keep a hectic schedule so whenever you stop by it’s like a breath of fresh air.

I am delighted to know that you enjoyed reading the post. I never thought that I would ever write such but I surprised myself and I had just as much fun writing it. 🙂 I am all for building lasting relationships and getting to know more about the people I connect with which bring me to this quote by Mencius that says ‘Friends are the siblings God never gave us.’

It’s good when you get to know others and even though you have not met them in person, you still feel that bond of friendship and family all at once that makes life all the more blessed and special.

About the gray hairs, yes I think people age differently and are able to increase in age by a number but never pop a gray. That’s a blessing. You are truly blessed! I concur with you, age is just a number and life was meant to enjoy. So let’s continue to enjoy it and never sweat about the small stuff. You are an encourager.

      Have a great weekend. 🙂

  8. Hi Yvonne,

Wow, I have no idea you were born in the islands. I heard so many great things about Nevis that I actually want to go one day.

I also believe everything happens for a reason but I still find it hard to swallow when I can’t figure out why in that moment 🙂

I try to avoid crowds too because I think they’re chaotic and tend to be a waste of time (when people are pointlessly moving about), especially when I’m clear in what I’m trying to accomplish.

I love sweets! I can’t resist either. Honestly if I could maintain a healthy diet by adding them to my regular meals I would lol.

Thanks for sharing these things about you Yvonne. I’m glad to see we have a number of things in common. 🙂

    Enjoy the evening.

    ~Lea

    • Hi Lea,

I am excited about your comment because of what you have revealed and also to learn of what we have in common with each other.

Yes my country is very beautiful – the warmth and friendliness of the people, great tasty food, rich history/sites to visit, and lovely beaches for sure. Glad to hear of your interest in visiting one day.

My love for sweet things ‘run deep’ Lol! And I feel you Lea 🙂 “if I could maintain a healthy diet by adding them to my regular meals I would”

Thanks for stopping by and participating in this discussion.. Enjoy the rest of the week.

  9. Hi Yvonne,

WOW. I feel like I’m reading about myself.

I don’t love math and math feels the same way to me. I worked early; I landed my first real job at 16, though it’s at McDonald’s and not in a hospital 🙂

I am a neat freak and a control freak also. I am a strong introvert like you, too. According to the Myers Briggs Personality Test, I am an ISFJ. I am terrified of crowds, too so I feel you.

I can’t live without coffee and last thing that’s common between us is we both enjoy giving freely.

I really love how you are so honest about who you are and I admire you for your courage and self-esteem. I loved knowing you through this post. It’s an encouragement to me, as I’m a really shy person.

Thank you Yvonne and I look forward to more inspiring posts.

    Luna
