A Poetic Expression On Overcoming A Dark Journey

This poetic expression on overcoming a dark journey is based on a true life story..a story of her struggles, fear and frustration, yet the remarkable courage and overwhelming faith in the journey that she will become strong  to walk away in victory. She refused to become another statistic and by recording her experience, hope that others would find encouragement and hope, and that God will give the grace and the courage to rise up and become the woman of strength that is so needed in the world today.

What Is Darkness?

Darkness is a sinister feeling, it is hard to explain – like suffering but without the pain.
Darkness is the stormy night when there isn’t a star and you cannot tell by looking just where you are.

The place darkness….It is sheer madness! Always crying, so frustrating, you can’t breathe, feel or even see. Darkness is what’s inside that is killing me. The sound darkness is Boom! Boom! Boom! A boulder echoing in an empty room, in a thunderstorm the darkest cloud you become deaf, deaf, for it is just too loud!

silence…….

Darkness is kind – a bandage of words that cover up the messed up mind that is like a broken teacup. Darkness is the stress that saps your consciousness leaving dead man walking, just the ghost inside you talking. Darkness is another friend leaving you with a bad look, closing you up like a scary book.

Darkness is a pit of sticky tar – it is wet, so wet from things you would just like to forget. It is black! It is dismal! It leaves you to die, only you die in the carnal.

Wired up in my mind with the thoughts of “why?” Fill this void and emptiness was the object of my cry. Whining and moaning all day long to listeners to my darkness, not confessing my sins, but a quick fix and a high were their words to me till morning nigh.

Darkness! Head hot as coals from mind electrical wires. Break loose woman, there’s going to be a huge fire! Run! Run for your life!

Screams…….but too weak to move…..
Now, imagine how it feels when the first parts to go are the toes, then the heels and by Fahrenheit degrees it’s the skin, ankles, calves and the knees are slowly being burnt, every bit of it…No wonder woman detested it!

Darkness! No wonder woman screamed “JESUS, please don’t let me die like this!” Left with only the broken bones in the wing of my mind, the Master, the Author and finisher of my FAITH heard my cry. New wings He gave my soul to soar and to fly.

The devil made it for bad, but I am so glad God made it for my good. Now I know no defeat, His strength made perfect in me when I am weak. Great things God has in store for me as He leads me on the path to my destiny. Can’t you see! Without a doubt God has brought me out. Behold a beautiful WOMAN! A magnificent creation, she is WOMAN! Someone completely and entirely new.

To all the woman who cry, don’t you dare quit! Do whatever it takes. Pray, scream, go to church, go to therapy. LOVE YOURSELF! PAMPER YOURSELF! Do whatever it takes. You are beautiful in God’s eyes. God made you an original WOMAN! Let go of the past hurts that is weighing you down but choose not to die. Jesus already did it for you and for me. You are a miracle. You are blessed of the Lord. You are 100% WOMAN!!

  1. Absolutely Joyce! This piece reminds me of the beginning of times when the bible describe the earth as 'darkness being upon the face of the deep' It was in that 'nothingness' chaos and confusion that God said, “Let there be light” and light came forth.

    Have a great day, blessings!

  2. This is so true. It is in the journey where we become strong. It is in the darkness where we begin to truly see the light!
