An Upside Down World But God Is Powerful And Unchanginng

Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God. – 3 John 11

The earth is plagued with a whirlwind and tsunami of troubles at the moment with no visible sign or time frame of when it will all end. The news headlines are equally troubling, somewhat sinister.

From Fox News, in a very telling video Lisa Daftari a Mideast Journalist reports on the unprecedented spike of public executions in Iran, stating that there has been in excess of 700 public executions from January to July of this year.

Barbaric! Satanic! Diabolic and evil at its core of conception in the minds of people that are perverted and twisted!

To say I am appalled would be an understatement. I am absolutely sickened to the pit of my stomach!

Too many headliners to mention here but consider the following:

One writer recently headlined his article, “An Upside Down World.” Here is a brief excerpt –

“We must get this fact firmly fixed in our minds: we live in an upside-down world. People hate when they should love, quarrel when they should be friendly, fight when they should be peaceful, wound when they should heal, steal when they should share, do wrong when they should do right.” – Billy Graham

Certainly not a pretty picture, right?

Innocent blood continue to be shed and is crying out from the ground for justice.

I am cognizant of the fact that there are many persons who are fervently praying, and while I am confident that God is listening to our prayers, it still seem as though they are going unanswered.

Where Do We Go From Here?

The truth is there is hardly much that you and I can do except to do as Jesus and His disciples exhorted us to do and that is to watch and pray. It is our duty as believers to seek to understand what are the meanings of these words and the range of implications. Our survival and our salvation depends on it.

God Is Powerful And Unchanging

We do not sit idly by and be passive spectators as though we are being entertained. The moments that we are awake we are to be vigilant, be on guard, be on the look out, fully aware, alert, and intently focused on our surroundings and our environment.

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Corinth, “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” [1 Corinthians 16:13] It is our watchfulness coupled with our prayers to God that will give us the strength to stand fast in the faith, to withstand the test of times and every difficult situation we encounter.

Equip ourselves with the knowledge of end time prophesy

Everything that is happening today was foretold by the prophets and Christ Himself that in the last days, kingdoms will rise against kingdoms, nations will rise against nations, that there will be wars, men will become lovers, boasters and pleasers of himself….

In order to know where to focus our attention, and what prayer points we are to bear in our prayers, we particularly need to know the Bible prophesies of the end times and the last days before the second coming of our Lord Christ.

In our watchfulness:

Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks.” ~ Luke 12:35-36 ESV

Another perfect example of how we watch is found in Matthew 25:1-13 in the parable of the 10 virgins. It emphasizes how we are to stay spiritually ready and prepared. We stay close to God and continually seek for His infilling of His Holy Spirit. That is how we keep our lamps filled with oil. Jesus concludes the parable by saying, “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of man is coming.” [Matthew 25:13]

Stay sober and watch out for enemies

The accounts of Jesus’ prophesy as given by Mark and Luke, we see that He has always connected watching with praying. The way in which they are both eternally linked is that watching enables our praying and praying helps our watching.

Mark 13:33-34 records Jesus saying: “Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time [of Christ’s coming] is. It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.”

Christ’s empathy and compassion is evident in these commands:

  1. Take heed to what He just said in His word
  2. Watch for the signs He has outlined
  3. Pray regularly and fervently so that we stay close to God
  4. Keep doing God’s work

In Luke 21:31,34, Jesus tells us that when you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near and that we should not allow that day to come upon us unexpectedly.

Watch and pray always

He [Jesus] concludes by saying, “Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”

My Final Thoughts

It is evident that we are living in the last days. These are the days that we will be witnesses to the great tribulations. There will be great distress in the land [on the earth] We need to humble ourselves, get on our knees and pray and seek God’s forgiveness and mercy upon us and our land for healing and deliverance.

As the Apostle Paul urges us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, let us “pray for all men, for kings and for all who are in authority over us so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.”

Let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem, so that we in turn may be recipients of God’s peace in our lives, and that His peace be within our homes, our palaces, at our workplace and wherever we may go from day to day. [Psalm 122:6-9]

Watch and pray! True we live in an upside down world but God is unchanging and faithful to His promises.

  1. Hey Yvonne,

We do live in an upside down world. Everything that makes our life easier are being dismissed for all the negatives to sit at the forefront and make life harder. As humans we are our own worse enemy.

However for all the harsh realities that scare and madden me, I have strong faith. When I meditate I seem to get it. And in other times it is just too much for me and I sit with a heavy heart.

When the value of life is so easily dismissed by people killing with ease, they have no choice but to pay for it down the track – I strongly believe we do not get away with injustice against the soul. Our lessons are all different but we must pay penance for deeds done wrong. Thanks for the post.

    Rachel.

    • Hi Rachel

So nice of you to stop by. I am glad to have you share your thoughts on this. So much has changed and we do have to agree that things are not like they once used to be. I can also say that as strong as our faith is yes, one would still get heavy heart by all the ills of society.

You mentioned another key point which is, we are our own worse enemy. But still we must keep hope alive and be our brothers and sisters keeper. One day, whether better or worse, a change will come. Meanwhile we continue to draw strength from each other

      Have a blessed week.

  2. Hi Yvonne,

It’s funny how when you read crazy headlines like that you wouldn’t think it would be happening in your backyard. You would think that we would have evolved at least that much.

But you make a great point. It was written and so it happened. I’m impressed by your understanding of it all and the correlation. I’m sure there are many people who are blind to it.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    ~Lea

    • Hi Lea,

It is scary what’s happening and the rate at which they are – once ago news like these was far and remote. We never bothered when we heard about them but now the way in which technology, communication and social media have evolved and revolutionized, the world has become a village and as you mentioned the things are happening right in our backyard.

Correlation brings a better perspective and really help us to make some sense of what is going on. We just have to continue to pray not just for ourselves but for others around the world.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts and making your voice heard in this discussion.

  3. Hi Yvonne

The events, you listed in the post, were part of the predictions of Bible (unfortunately)at the end time. Bible also asked us pay attention to the question “Do we like the time in Noah?” Certainly we are.
USA is so blessed by the Lord because the founding fathers built it with foundation of verses. We are gradually stay away from the right path. God still loves America. He gave the warning with 9/11. But I did not see the government take the warning seriously.
What should individual do? In my opinion, two steps we can take: first to be wise virgin – prepare and ready for His coming back; 2nd is to take and conquer the mountain (which can be personal or professional) – the idea comes from Dr. Lance Wallnau.

i am writing with heavy heart – Stella

    • Hi Stella,

Indeed we are witnessing end time predictions come to pass. God however is still giving His people a chance to get off the broad road of destruction, repent and to turn back to Him. He is not slack concerning His promise as some count slackness; but is long suffering towards us, not willing that any should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance. [2 Peter 3:9]

Sure there will be consequences for those who do not turn from their evil ways, but we pray for God’s mercy even in the time of His judgement for wrongdoing.

Rightly so as you’ve said, we must be like the wise virgins – prepare and be ready and to take and conquer the mountain. Our Father’s heart is heavy – the manifestation of it comes through us. May He continue to bless you. Cheers! 🙂

  4. Hi Yvonne,

I hear you loud and clear. I’m at the point where I cannot even watch the news anymore. Indeed, the world is upside down and I am blessed to believe in God. If I didn’t I think I would go crazy.

When I see all that is going on in the world and how all the “clues” are written on the wall, I pray. I pray for the world. As a devout Catholic there is a special prayer I say at 3 pm….”For the sake of the sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world” This is repeated 50 times and in between there are other prayers.

Because I have no control over the world, I firmly believe I can put a little peace in it by prayer.

I pray that God shines light to leaders and others to open their eyes and stay in the light and get out of the darkness of hate, fear, doubt and so on.

So good to know we are on the same page! I love this post.

    -Donna

    • Hi Donna,

I am excited you are here and is weighing in on this. Prayer is indeed a powerful weapon and as believers we just have to continue to use it to our advantage which not only gives us peace of mind in an unstable and upside down world but that God’s answer/s to our prayers will set captives free, heal and mend broken hearts and bring comfort to those that are in distress around the world.

I love that prayer and we would be amazed at how God works through a simple prayer such as that to bring about change and deliverance. So yes you are doing a great part and making a difference.

I agree that we need to pray for world leaders and in addition to those specific prayer points you mentioned is that we ask God to grant them godly wisdom, to enlighten their understanding and make them more knowledgeable of the things of God.

I implore you to keep the faith. Let your light keep on shining and may your hope and confidence continue to be in God. You are abundantly blessed. Stay connected. Lots of love 🙂

  5. Hi Yvonne

Much impressed to read your deep insight into what is happening in our world.
I personally agree with your lot of points as I also observed decline in every field be it ethics, social life, relationships, religious harmony, obedience to God or pursuit of learning.

Everywhere we instead of learning and listening from others try to give our verdict as the final thought.

Rigidity brings intolerance while every religion of the world teaches flexibility to believe in let and let live. But today’s world shows followers of every religion have mostly forgot their basic teachings.

Thanks a lot for sharing for such a thoughtful post.

    • Hi Mi,

So nice to see you and I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and imparting your wisdom to us. It has certainly added value to the post and the discussion.

You highlighted some very critical areas [ethics, social life, relationships, religious harmony…] where truly I concur with you that there is a rapid decline. Exactly my viewpoint that we’ve got to learn to live and let live, especially where it comes to rights on religious freedom. We have all been given a free will to choose and people should be allowed to exercise that God-given right even if it means we have different religious beliefs.

I am perplexed as to what really could have caused creation [human] to stray so far away from basic teachings and moral principles that I know/you know that our fathers and forefathers worked so hard to instill such values in us. Could it be a power struggle for one to get his/her religion be the dominant one that they see as the only right one and which everyone else must follow?

Nevertheless, continue to be encouraged. I still believe there is hope – and to hope it does not cost us anything and neither would we be ashamed for holding on to it.

Thanks for making this such and enlightening and enjoyable discussion. Have a great week,

  6. Loved this…..great reminder to put on the WHOLE armor of God every day….and watch….never turn your back to “the lion”

    • Hi creativediva1,

Happy to see you again and equally glad to know that you loved the post. Thanks for the reminder of that word where we are to put on the whole armor of God everyday. We can’t go without it or else we’ll be blindsided by the plans of the enemy.

Let’s keep watching and praying for one another. God bless you. Have a great week upcoming.
