I Am A Child Of Destiny
Ever so often in Christiandom you and I would hear some mention of the word destiny. There are mentions such as, “Destiny is about to be birthed in you,” “your destiny awaits you,” or when something happens to another person, especially in tragic incidents, you hear, “destiny was meant to be.” But what really is destiny and what is its association with mankind for that matter? What is God’s perspective on this?
In my search for the truth, Colliers Dictionary states destiny as a) the seemingly inevitable or necessary succession of event; b) what will happen to any person or thing, ones’ fate; c) that which determines event; seed of either a supernatural agency or necessity. My on line research concluded with the following that destiny is a) something that is to happen or has happened to a particular person or thing; b) the predetermined, usually inevitable or irresistible course of events; c) The power or agency that determines the course of events.
From a biblical perspective, the bible clearly links destiny without fail to prophecy, that is, the word of God itself which every individual is predestined to live up to and pursue as his/her appointed destiny. All people born on the planet do have a destiny that their own choices and circumstances eventually reveals to them. Revealed yes, because God is the one who holds our destiny in His hands. He is destiny, the same yesterday, today and forever more. You and I cannot escape what destiny holds for us. And whether a person answers when destiny calls, is dependent upon ones’ determination to explore and make the right choices.
The Apostle Paul says, [God] “Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasures of his will….In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.” (Ephesians 1:5, 11)
This explains that God Himself predetermined a succession of events, situations and circumstances that would take place in every aspect of His creation, but more so, in the life of every believer. Destiny includes each one of us and what is meant for us at the end. It includes our posterity as heirs with God and joint heirs with Jesus and heirs of that destiny once it is fulfilled, or perhaps lost, if left unfulfilled.
Its fulfilment relies on more than the performance of ones’ call. Its success depends on equipment, training and skills each person must identify, acquire, and refine to excel in what they were born to do. It is usually evidenced by what a person not only does well, but thrives on doing. It exceeds hobby by being the only solace, gratification, or enthusiasm a person receives or has for anything. It gives value, merit and meaning to your life. It becomes a refuge and an outlet at the same time.
So like the Apostle Paul, let us follow after that for which we have been apprehended, forget about what is behind us, for it is past, and let us reach forth unto those things that are before us and press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. You are a child of destiny!
