The Accident That Almost…..

the accident that almost

I felt a sudden heaviness against my chest as my heart skipped a beat or two! My hands were shaking as my right leg forcefully clamped down on the brakes, which brought my vehicle to a sudden halt in the middle of the road!

In that very moment I had a vision of death..my life could have ended or someone else’s life could have ended also. To say that I was scared would be an understatement. Fear won that round as it silenced me for a minute or two. But what could have been, or should have been, never was!

You see less than 24 hours ago, on the morning of April 8th 2014 as I was heading to work, I approached an intersection to make a right turn onto the main road. As I slowly brought the vehicle to a stop, I looked right at first, then left and right again as I eased the brake to make the right turn.

What seems to be like out of no where to me, I glanced out of the left side of my eye to behold a black jeep zooming up heading in the same direction I was turning, and missed crashing into the drivers side of my vehicle by just a few inches.

To add a bit of insult to the whole situation, the driver of the vehicle never bothered to stop.

But my life is not meant to be cut short. God has a plan for me bigger than I can ever imagine. His guardian angels were on their usual daily assignment – to watch over my every move, to guard me and to protect me.

I call it, my miracle that came as a result of God’s mercy and His grace. A depth of gratitude to God for His saving grace, His favor and mercy towards me. Death lost it’s sting!

HERE IS WHAT [MY FAVORITE] PSALM 91 SAYS:

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” (NIV)

_____________

Life is like a flower that blooms until the elements of life, the tricks and devices of the enemy gets to it. It is delicate and tender and the petals that surrounds the heart of it cannot be touched in a rough manner or they fall to the ground leaving the heart of life exposed to die unless that is, there is a miracle to save it.

Without a doubt, I can blame this near accident on the Devil. His primary assignment is three fold and that is, to steal, to kill and to destroy. The Bible says in John 10:10 (BBE),

The thief comes only to take the sheep [God’s children] and to put them to death: he comes for their destruction:”

You too may have narrowly escaped an accident that could have taken you out cold and later on sent you to the ER, ICU or six feet under. You may have had some accident other than vehicular that evoked a world of emotions within you. As a result you are afraid.

My hope is this as I share it with you today, Jesus says:

I have come so that they may have life and have it in greater measure.”

YOUR TURN…

  • Have you ever been in a vehicular accident or know of someone that did?
  • What was your reaction?
  • What kind of emotions did it evoke within you?

Yes, I was in an accident some 13 years ago. I came away from it with back pain, but nothing more. God truly was protecting me. I was definitely scared by the event, but gratitude outweighed the fear because I knew that I had escaped far better than it could have been. Praise God!

  2. Lovely post, Yvonne!! As I was reading it, I was reminded of a near death accident I had on January 1st of this year when I fell out of my raft when white water rafting! It was a terrifying moment! The lesson I learned from that was to embrace fear and not let it hold me back. When given the choice to take the bus back to the start, I chose to get back in the raft and finish despite being scared.

Thank you for sharing your story and the lessons we can learn!

    • Hi Jennifer, welcome and thanks for connecting! Glad you were inspired by my story. Beautiful testimony of grace and courage. I am happy to know that you were able to overcome it all. You regained the strength and the power that you needed to get back and try again. True inspiration! Blessings! 🙂

  3. I thank God for giving his angles charge over us. We are hid with Christ in God ( Col 3:3). Thank God for his protection….Amen.

    • Indeed we are hid in Christ. The enemy cannot get to us except God allows and he can go no further than the boundary that God has assigned to him. Praising and thanking God even now! Blessings as always Pastor Ava. 🙂
