Successful Living: God’s Prescription To Us

The Bible says, “Keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.” (Proverbs 3:1-2 NIV) “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8) 

I am almost certain if I were to conduct a survey, the overwhelming majority of us would say that among our main goals in life would be (a) to be happy; (b) to be healthy; (c) to be successful; (d) to live long.

Must I add, these are excellent goals for anyone to have! But what are the ingredients to having all of these goals fulfilled? What would contribute to us truly being happy, health, successful and living long here on this earth? For starters, if we could buy our way to happiness, the majority of us could not afford it. That’s the truth. If there was a pill somewhere on the market that we could buy and swallow perhaps once a day, twice a day, or even three times a day for a week to add years to our life, we’d probably pay a lot of money for it.

We’ve bought books, magazines, gone to conferences, and followed the twelve steps guide to success in life by many of our best selling authors. But can we honestly say, we have attained success. I know I haven’t and if you have already, then kudos to you! 

What if I were to tell you thought that the only prescription and solution/key to any of us achieving these goals and everything else we desire in life is contained in the word of God. It is free to all of us who would access it by faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. It was certainly not free to Him nor our Heavenly Father who by the way have paid for it all with the shed blood of Jesus. 

God has given to us excellent principles in His word for good health and success. The Bible is our PDR Manual (Physician’s Desk Reference Manual). He says, “keep my commands in your heart.” It means if we do not know them, then we cannot keep them in our heart. Then if they are not in our heart there is no way of which word is the right right that would produce the right results. 

So what are some of these prescribed “medication” commands? In my article yesterday ref. “You R Your Own Success Story, Tell It!! I made mention of Proverbs 3:5-6 and for a more in-depth look we can go on up to verse 10, it is key to our health to (i) trust in the Lord with all your heart; (ii) lean not to your own understanding, (iii) submit yourself to God [all times] and in return He will make your paths straight, (iv) fear God and stay away from evil, (v) honor the Lord with the wealth He allow us to have then our barns will be full to overflowing. 

Not only that our opening text from Joshua 1:8 commands us to always let God’s [word] come from our mouth, to meditate (thought) upon what is written in the Bible day and night, do (action) what is written in the book/Bible, THEN we can enjoy good health, nourishment to our bones, peace, tranquility, success, happiness and prosperity in the land.
