Life Is The Sum Of All Your Choices

Life is filled with the numerous choices that we make everyday. Some are considered major, others not so significant at all. It may be something as simple as going to the grocery store, the barber shop, beauty salon, a walk in the park or something major such as buying a property, a car or even getting married to the love of your life.

In social media, we make choices daily – from Twitter, to Facebook, Google +, Pinterest, My space, WordPress or Blogger. What to write? Who to follow? Whose blog to leave a comment on? Whose post to re-tweet and re-share? Many followers, they read your blog posts, agree with what you shared, were blessed and inspired by it, only to walk away without taking one single action. It’s a choice. But as each one of us make our decisions, it will be good to remember we are the ones that have to live with the consequences and results of each choice.

Being a procrastinator or an action taker is a choice. Being a pessimist or an optimist, it is a choice. You were not born one way or the other and it is not something you can say you inherited from your parents.

Eating a quarter pound burger with french fries on the side, laying up on the couch in front of the TV as opposed to eating a healthy salad or meal, taking daily walks, and working out in the gym, those are choices that you and I have to make.

You can choose who your friends are, who you associate with on a daily basis or even dis-associate yourself from. You can choose to align yourself with positive people and those who will support your vision, dreams and also hold you accountable for your actions or you can choose to align yourself with negative people and those who do nothing but drain you and pull you down to their standard.

You can choose to blame all of your problems in life on everybody else, not take responsibility for your own actions, sit there and have a pity party all day long or you can choose to get up and do something with yourself, be proactive, and use the lessons you learned from your experience to help others.

You can choose to serve and worship idols or other gods or serve and worship the one true living God. These are all choices. Your decision now or in the near future.

There are some things however that we do not get to choose, such as our parents, siblings and other family members. But agreeably so, as a result of our many bad choices, sin has become the greatest malady and sickness to have affected the human race and sadly, there is simply no cure for it. And whether you are enjoying life or not, the root cause can be traced back and is connected to a choice you once made.

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have.” ~ Eckhart Tolle

Which Way To Go?

The sum of all your choices will determine the kind of life you live.

Why am I on choices today? Consequences, that’s why. I’ve made some poor choices in life and if I said that I am still not feeling the effects and suffering the consequences of the sum of them all, I would not have told you the truth. I live with regret for some things that I did only to find out later when I got the understanding, I should not have done them at all or should have done them differently.

So what can you take from this my simple testimony?

I am reminded of when Joshua was addressing the children of Israel back in the day. He did not stutter or mince words with them. He made it plain as if giving them an ultimatum. In the end the choice was still theirs.

He said, “If you think it’s the wrong thing for you to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves today whom you will serve- the gods whom your ancestors served on the other side of the Euphrates River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose territories you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15 International Standard Version)

Joshua stood out from among them because in spite of all the difficulties and the challenges he faced at the time, he was determined that he and his household will serve the true living God.

No doubt he must have made some enemies. Because when you make an open confession and express your determination that you will live in obedience to God and serve Him in spirit and truth, it’s not everyone who are going to like your decision. People will hate you just for that. Persecution will come. Suffering, trials, testing and tribulations will come. But if in fact you are persecuted for righteousness sake, then according to God’s word, you are BLESSED.

“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:10 KJV)

The surest way for you to make the right choices in your life today, is to be led by the Spirit of God. Being faithful and being led by His Holy Spirit, the sum of your choices under that condition, you are sure to reap life everlasting and blessings in abundance.

Taking it a step further, I ask that you, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV)

Make the right choices today!

Your turn…..

What are some of the things you take into consideration before you make your choice/decision each day? Have you made choices that you now have regrets about? Do you have a testimony you would like to share of how God changed your life after you made some poor choices?

Thank you and God bless you!
