10 Bible Verses Leaders Must Pay Close Attention To For Success

The bible is the most resourceful book ever written that gives us strategies of how leaders can remain successful after they are elevated to such high office.

Those secrets to success in the bible once given the attention they deserve and put into practice, will lead to immeasurable results. The leadership wisdom we gain is considered a priceless treasure.

While there are encouraging verses, there are warning bible verses that should also scare leaders into getting them to practice what is right. If we ignore any of these verses, as leaders we are in trouble.

So here is a selection of verses leaders must pay close attention to for success. Are you ready?

1. “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;” ~ Philippians 2:3 

As leaders, we must be careful that our actions are not out of our selfish desires to promote ourselves and our own personal agenda. Instead, we are called to lead with humility and grace, and with a mind to treat those we lead with respect.

We ought not to think of ourselves more important than others, and neither should we be looking down on anyone as being less important or as if they are insignificant.

2. “Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.” ~ Luke 6:31

Stop for a moment and put yourself in the place of others. Some things will quickly come to mind such as, love, respect, acceptance, feeling of appreciation, justice, equity, fairness and so on.

The same way that you and I want to be treated, it is the same way we should treat those we are called to lead.

3. “It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant.” ~ Matthew 20:26

If we want to be great as leaders, we must first be servants. We will not be effective and successful as leaders if we have not yet learned the art of submission – to submit ourselves under the authority of God first and then to the ones in authority over us in the secular arena.

Some of the best leaders of today and even those of the past served while leading others, Jesus Himself being the best example of this.

4. “He must increase, but I must decrease.”~ John 3:30

So you are a leader, but did you know that leadership and your life in that office is not about you and I. There is a much higher power and authority far greater than that which we will ever have.

5. “It is an abomination for kings to commit wicked acts, for a throne is established on righteousness.” ~ Proverbs 16:12

As leaders we must be careful of our actions. We must lead with righteousness, truth and integrity if ever we are to be successful. A king’s throne can only be established in righteousness.

If we are leading in wickedness as leaders, clearly it is an abomination unto the Lord. We must commit ourselves to live right and to lead right!

6. “So he shepherds them according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them with his skillful hands” ~ Psalm 78:72

The key word here for leaders is integrity. It is about leading others while we adhere to morals and ethical principles. It is about leading others with an honest heart and good character as we skillfully and carefully guide others on the right path.

What happens behind closed doors or when the lights go out and we are no more in the spotlight? Do we seek to uphold the integrity of the office as a leader? The choice is yours.

7. “But whoever causes one of these little one who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” ~ Matthew 18:6

This verse is among the scariest bible verse for leaders. We are responsible for those we lead that we do not hurt, injure or lead them astray nor lead them to sin and wrongdoing.

Believe it or not, just like little children, they look to us for guidance and direction as we ourselves are led by God.

It is a great responsibility that we have as leaders. We should never take this for granted but ensure that we lead well.

8. “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the spring of life.” ~ Proverbs 4:23

How does this apply to us as leaders? The verse is saying that out of a man’s heart flows the issues of life. It can carry many things in it.

Now whether it is good or bad, it is entirely up to us realizing that one day we will have to give an account for it. It is important then for us to watch carefully over our heart so that we allow the good and the positive things to not only get into it, but to flow from it.

Now my question is, are you putting good things in your heart?

9. “but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God.” ~ 1 Timothy 3:15

The test of a true and successful leader begin within our own household. If we cannot master that, how can we succeed in taking care of the church of God or lead effectively at our workplace?

10. “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” ~ Galatians 6:9

Leadership is not an easy role to be in. It can be very lonely at times. Having said that, leaders we will face many challenges and many setbacks. We will gain few friends and many who will not always agree with our decisions.

Nonetheless, let us not become feint in heart or grow weary in doing our jobs. Stay on course, pray without ceasing, draw nigh to God and look to Him for strength and guidance.

In due time, we will reap the reward if we do not grow weary.
