The title of today’s devotional was selected on purpose! The intention is to demonstrate the fact that no matter what is going around us, [terrorists attacks, news feed filled with fearful images and videos, negative press on television and newspapers] God is still in control and is worthy of celebrating.
I mean when I think of celebrating our God even while in the middle of chaos, I cannot help but reflect on the way in which David the Psalmist purposely set out to have that celebration in Psalm chapter 8. In the Amplified Bible version he refers Psalm as “the Lord’s glory and man’s dignity.”
He blows the trumpet in verse 1 with “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic and glorious and excellent is your name in all the earth! You have displayed your splendour above the heavens. Out of the mouths of infants and nursing babes you have established strength because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and make the revengeful cease.”
God’s majesty is so powerful that not only has He set His glory high above the heavens way above and beyond the earth’s atmosphere but He designed it in such a way that His creatures here on earth can both carry and share in His glory.
God is not taken by surprise with the turmoil present among us today and neither does it change the fact that He is Holy and worthy to receive all our praise. From sun up to sun down, God is worth giving ALL the praises to! From everlasting to everlasting He is still God!
Troubles will cease. The day will come when death shall be no more. There will be no more tears. Your pain shall cease. Wicked people will meet their due recompense and be scattered abroad into eternal damnation filled with fire and brimstone but God’s existence will never end. He is infinite and immortal. All the glory is His and we ought not let what is happening in the world today cause us to cease giving glory to the matchless name of our Lord.
God is so great that He can entrust His praise and glory to infants and children and not be robbed of His glory. Words of praise from babes not yet weaned and children who are still in the child play stage can defeat God’s enemies.
Think of the cry of baby Moses that ultimately brought Egypt to their knees. Reflect on the birth of Samuel that God used to save Israel and to bring David to the throne. It was the birth of Jesus that brought salvation to the world.
Throughout scripture God has used the weak and helpless to praise Him and to defeat the enemies (1 Corinthians 1:27) Think about David who just a little boy that God used to silence and defeat the giant Goliath (1 Samuel 17:33, 42-43) Through that encounter God brought great glory to His name (1 Samuel 17:45-47)
Today and every day is celebration time! Let us use every opportunity that is available to us to lift up the name of our God. O Lord, our Lord how excellent is your name in all the earth.
