It Doesn’t Matter!

The day began quite well. Everything that was planned was going as scheduled. Indeed, I looked forward to what I had planned ahead of me also. After all, it was the end of another long and tiring work week and it was also the weekend. I was elated! Things that I had dreamed of for so many years were finally coming to fruition. Truly it’s harvest time and a joyous occasion.

My day would soon be interrupted though by a telephone call expressing the violent opposition that one member of my family was facing at that moment. I tried to speak calm into the situation and gave the reassurance to keep a focused mind even in the midst of all the chaos. I said, “take deep breaths and every breath you inhale, breathe into your spirit peace, calm, positivity and every breath you exhale, picture yourself releasing the poisonous venomous toxins of what was attacking your mind.” The conversation ended but then came along a member of Satan’s cohorts. For the purpose of anonymity, I refer to the spirit as Gossip Shop. The conversation went like this:

Gossip Shop:
So I guess by now you have heard about sister ‘so and so,’ she pregnant and she is not even married. She calls herself a Christian. She even used to be in the church youth group.
Empowerment Moments:
That should not matter much to you and if it does, why not say a prayer for her. I am sure that would help. You should know that the devil do not give life. The word of God says that children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is His reward, so I do believe that God had a hand in that.
Gossip Shop:
Well that’s not all, sister ‘so and so’ and her husband are getting a divorce. The papers have already been filed. I don’t know what’s wrong with them people who go to that church. I even hear  another sister and her husband in the same church getting a divorce but I say no man, that one ain’t true. But definitely the first one I just mentioned, that one is true.
Empowerment Moments:
Do you know that God permits divorce? That’s right! It is right there in His word that a woman/man can divorce on the grounds of marital unfaithfulness (adultery/fornication). So it does not matter!

A long moment of silence……
Gossip Shop:
Some people I don’t know how they get into certain positions. ‘John Doe,’ his mother for all these years has been a bad role model. As for his father, he drinks too much! He is an alcoholic.
Empowerment Moments:
So what does that have to do with ‘John Doe?’ For one, your past experiences in life has nothing to do with the present and neither the future plans that God has for anyone of us. It does not matter who the parents were back then or even now. It does not matter! What God has for you is for you. You need to just stop with all that negativity. It is called gossiping, backstabbing and making mischief. God hates that!

If you have ever had any such encounters in your life, you would soon realize that your giants have only as much power as you give to them. For them to have power to operate against you, you will have to be the one to give it to them. Everyone has a past experience of something that they just want to forget about but you and I cannot walk in guilt over our past all the days of our lives. People always seem to know what you did. They even know who you’ve been with but they don’t know what God sent you to do. The truth is, it does not matter what they say!

Let me speak in the first person here. I believe that I am delivered from my past and also from negative people who, if the truth be told, they add no value whatsoever to my life. I can also say that as I grow older, I am growing wiser and that I can add more things to the list of things that just don’t matter! Maybe back then, but certainly not now! Whatever obstacles that I faced then, and even now, I do not allow them to stop me. And I want encourage you to adopt that same attitude in life that even if you run into a wall, you don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb up over it, go through it, or walk around it, even if it’s the last thing that you do.

If you were to go around each day accepting the labels and the expectations of others, especially the negative ones, guess what, then you will never change the outcome. The bible says a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again. (Proverbs 24:16) What makes him just? It is not the fact that he fell down seven times and got up, but that he had enough sense to get up one more time than he fell down, signifying a new beginning in his/her life.

In conclusion, with the hope that it would help you as much as it helped me, I share with you this quote from Golda Meir that says: “Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” For my final thoughts, whatever your past experiences, your failures, your flaws, your hurts, your insecurities and inadequacies, it does not matter! For we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
