The Weariness Of Time

First of all my thoughts and prayers go out to all those whose lives have been affected by the ravages of Hurricane Sandy not just in the USA but also those in the Caribbean. Words cannot begin to express how you may be feeling at this time. But may God be with you, may He uphold you in the right hand of His righteousness and may He give you peace even in the midst of this your distress.

The question that I ask in the midst of it all is, what have you been praying for lately that has not yet been answered? Take a brief moment to reflect. Think about it seriously. It may be something you have prayed for lately. Did you pray like I did that Hurricane Sandy would shift in the opposite direction, go far away into the ocean and die and not affect people’s lives, if not completely, at least not in the way that it did? Or could it be that you have been praying and believing God for something else for a long time, perhaps weeks, months, or even years?

For me personally, there are many areas of my life that are far from completion that I have been praying and believing God for a long time. To add insult to the injury of my long waiting, one would have thought that with my level of maturity in God, that I would have learned my fair share of lessons and learned them well too.  But not so.

On this journey called life, you and I would be constantly put to the test. We would face some of life’s greatest challenges and difficulties. The face of adversity is not black and neither is it white. It does not concern itself with gender affairs. Perilous times would smack us up side the left cheek and then the right, sometimes without warning. Times of famine (for the word of God) would come upon us. At some point in time we would experience the wrath of fire, floods, and fears. And whether you are still a babe in the word of God still drinking milk or you are a seasoned mature Christian who can handle the strong meat, God will allow us to be placed on the grinding mill and the spinning wheel of misfortune.

Leaving behind a trail of destruction and billions of dollars worth of damages, Hurricane Sandy buckles the transport system, brings to a halt the education system, causes disruption to the water system and the political system. She has taken the lives of approximately 69 persons in the Caribbean, at least 56 confirmed dead in the USA and 1 in Canada. Up to 7.9M people are without power in the US alone, not to mention those in the Caribbean. The New Jersey levee breaks flooding streets, subway system, homes, and businesses.

At least 110 homes are said to have burned to the ground in New York. more images and info I am not certain what goes through the mind of God that He allows us to go through through such incomprehensible acts of injustice to humanity, or He makes promises that is unattainable and unreachable by the heights of man, and like without a warning, it’s just as if He turns around and puts a sentence of death upon the promise itself.

Your case comes up for hearing, and right before a packed courtroom, and before the world’s stage, you are found guilty as charged and you are sentenced to do hard labour in “the weariness of time.”  It’s in that duration of your sentence you become weary – weary with your arms outstretched holding up the promise that this too shall pass. You remember He says, weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning, at the completion of your sentence, however long that may be.

Time passes by, the promise itself weights you down as it gets increasingly heavy in your hand/s. Your arms at times feel like they would buckle, and fold over. They become weak as your muscles begin to burn. At times it becomes really unbearable, because you’re still in “the weariness of time.”

It is unprecedented that one week prior to one of the closest run Presidential electoral races in the USA that God would allow such disaster to strike that nation. What is the message that we are to heed? Which Government should we be looking to? Is it the government of the free nations and kingdoms of the world here on earth, or is it time we be looking and turning to the Government and Kingdom of God? While we pick up the pieces of our lives, it’s a choice that each one of us must make individually. And while we serve our sentence in “the weariness of time,” having to deal with the harsh realities and the

  • Time that the storm will finally go away, and the sun shine again on us,
  • Time the water will recede and dry up,
  • Time when homes will be safe again for normal dwelling,
  • Time evacuees will be able to leave shelters and return to normal living,
  • Time it will take for clean up efforts to be completed,
  • Time when the curfew is lifted,
  • Time when it is safe to walk on and drive unhindered through the streets again,
  • Time when power will be restored
  • Time when the transportation system will be restored,
  • Time when…….

Let us remember this word from Hebrews 10:35 that says, “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath a great recompense of reward. For ye therefore have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.” It is recorded also in Romans 4:19, “And being not weak in faith, he (Abraham) considered not his own body now dead,”

I want to say to each one of us, the expected change would come according to what we have been praying and believing God for. Keep holding on to the faithfulness of God’s promise. Do not waiver! Focus your thoughts upon it! Let your confidence and hope be in God like never before. The waters will recede and dry up and the sun will shine again. Keep on praising and worshipping God like never before. By your praise and worship unto the King of kings and Lord of lords, give the Devil a knock-out punch and a nervous breakdown and show him that in spite of, God is still worthy, He is still in control and He alone deserves ALL of the praise!

  1. Blessings for a great day Janelle!

  2. Great article YvonneEMoments! The lesson that I leave with from this is the importance of placing all our trust in God – not in man and not in the material things of this world. In the twinkling of an eye they are gone, vanished. It is also so important to be in right standing with God, today one can be here and same day that same man is no more. Let us all draw nigh to God so that He can draw nigh to us.
