Living Up To the Standard of Greatness Inside of You

We have been cultured into thinking that greatness is limited to just a few individuals or a specific group of persons. We struggle with our identity and who we are, not to mention the struggle within of understanding the dynamics of what we are really capable of in God.

Many of us still hear the voices of some of our harsh critics who try to make us believe that we would not accomplish anything good in life. For a while, we believed what they were saying and by our actions, have not been consistently living up to the full measure of our potential and greatness.

Assuming you were conceived outside of wedlock, the traditional thinking was that you too will become like your mother and will have your babies outside of wedlock and this will pass down to the third and fourth generations of your family. Supposedly, your dad was an alcoholic and a drunk, a son was made to believe by the words spoken to him, that was all he would ever amount to in life.

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. (1 John 4:4 NLT)

Anne Frank’s statement further corroborates the point of our greatness. She says, “Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don’t know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is”

So clearly, we have greatness and the power of greatness in us to work to our favour. Greatness to find our passion and then to make it our purpose to act on that passion. We have the power of choice – power over our thoughts and mind, our brain, our emotions and our destiny. You and I can choose to change our thinking!

We can choose to get an education or to engage ourselves in higher learning. We can choose to develop a skill and strategically re-brand ourselves, thereby changing public’s perception. We can choose to reinvent ourselves, to find out more about what is unique about us and then proceed to become the person who we were really meant to be. You and I have great potential!

“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great makes you feel that you, too, can become great.” ~ Mark Twain

“You were put on this earth to achieve your greatest self, to live out your purpose, and to do it fearlessly.” ~ Steve Maraboli
