Single Mom Whose Son Was Born Out Of Wedlock, Snubbed By Winans’ Perfecting Church

Editor’s note:

Was deeply disturbed by this article below and the word that immediately resonated was this: Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, “Let the children alone, and do not hinder [stop] them from coming to me; for the Kigdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:13-14) EMB is not here to judge anyone, but will without prejudice, give voice to those who have been the subject of injustice and or discrimination. What would Jesus have done? Exactly as His word says.

DETROIT (WJBK) — Charity Grace lives on the east side of the city with here 2-year old son, Joshua. The two recently started to attend Perfecting Church under the leadership of Pastor Marvin Winans.
On Sunday, a special blessing is planned at the church on East Nevada Street. They are having a dedication service for children two years old and under. Grace was looking forward to having having her only child receive this blessing.
“I want to instill values and morals in my son based upon the word of God,” said Grace.
She called the church on Tuesday to make arrangement. “I told them I was not married and that’s where everything just broke loose.”
Grace says she spoke with a woman who told her Pastor Winans’ policy is that he is not to bless children of unwed mothers infront of his congregation.
“I’ve never felt so degraded and disrespected in my life,” said Grace.
Rev. W.J. Rideout III of All God’s People Church speaks out about injustice outside the church and all over the world. So, we asked if he thought this was an injustice inside the church.
“Every pastor has set up the pattern of his church, the way he feels or deems fit. But as it relates to the scripture, I feel like it’s wrong,” said Rideout. “I feel like we’re judging, but we’re not judging with righteous judgement.”
We asked to speak with Pastor Winans about the allegations. He declined an interview.
“What they could do for me is let my son get dedicated during a week day with one of the elders of my choice,” said Grace.
“I’m not speaking against the pastor, but sometimes we make poor decisions,” said Rideout.
“I absolutely would not set foot back in the church right now because I feel like they look down upon me and my kind, meaning single moms and unwed mothers. The church should be the last place you should go to be judged and denied,” said Grace.
Shalom

  2. That's my thought as well Kalley. My prayer is that they would have had time to reconsider and to do the right thing according to God's word.

  3. This is so heartbreaking! A child should not be denied a blessing or their rights in church because of the circumstances of their birth. Here I thought Jesus said let the children come to Him. Sometimes we humans make wrong decisions, and it does has a serious impact on others.

  4. Thanks Pastor Ava for elaborating and for making known your position on the matter which cannot be viewed in any other way but by the word of God. God hates sin but loves ALL! He never turns away the sinner who has made the decision according to his/her will to come unto Him. God is love and love covers a multitude of sins/faults. Too many are being turned away from church and from coming to the Lord because of self-righteousness church people/leaders, which as God says all our righteousness is like filthy rags. I pray for resolution, pardon and forgiveness.

  5. Your point is well taken. The child should never be punished for the sexual sin of his/her mother. Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is His/God's reward/blessing to the parent. We are not to deny or condemn them in any way whatsoever. I also believe that God has forgiven the young lady a long time ago for the sin of fornication or sex outside of marriage. Poor decision/policy on the part of that church leader and anyone else who share their viewpoint.

  6. As a Pastor for 22 years I have dedicated so many babies of unwed mothers unto the Lord. The child is not to be blamed for the sin of the parents. The parents WHO CONTINUE to live in sin should get their act right, and I can attest to this fact that some unwed parents do use this as a wake up call to righteousness. Jesus said…”suffer the little children to come onto me” He never said suffer the kids of wedded parents to come unto me. Because of the mercies and love of God he will use those same children to spread the gospel to the nations. Many pastors and leaders of today were born out of wedlock. Who are we to cast aside the innocent kids when God said let them come unto him. I declare today to the world to bring all the kids of the unwed parents to me let me bless them. After I am done I will pray for the unwed parents and share the word of God with them pointing them to God and the righteous way of life which will set them free. Bring all the kids to me! Unwed parents wake up!.God loves you and wants you to serve him.

  7. This is yet another sad day for the church! How low can we go as the body of Christ? It is things like these that cause me and I am sure others not to like organized religious structure such as these. That is a man made rule! It is not biblical what Perfecting Church and Pastor Marvin Winans has done to this young woman and her 2 year old son, born out of wedlock or not! Mat 19:13-14 is clear! Where is the love man???? Man's heart have waxed cold, a sign we are in the last days. May God have mercy!
