Prayer In Celebration and Honor of Fathers

Today is Father’s Day! Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers as we celebrate and honor you in a special way. Our prayer is based on these two scripture as follows –

And [God] will be a father unto you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. ~ 2 Corinthians 6:18 My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son. ~ Hebrews 12:5-6 NIV

Heavenly Father, we praise and thank you for this day that you have made. We thank you for being the greatest Father ever to your sons, who themselves were chosen by you to be father to many sons and daughters here on earth.

We celebrate and honor them in a special way as the priests, prophets and king in their household. May you continue to teach, guide, direct, protect and encourage them to be men of standard and pursue a godly character after the likeness of your Son Jesus Christ. Help them to be good fathers to their children.

Help them to rise above the challenges of today as they depend on you for strength, ideas and strategies as to how to be the great leaders to teach, lead, motivate, encourage and guide their family, especially their children.

For those strung out on drugs and alcohol and are not there for their children, Lord we pray for their deliverance and recovery from that spirit of bondage. Deliver them we pray from abuse, neglect and abandonment. Like the prodigal son who came to himself and returned to his father’s house, we pray for return of absent fathers and their sons back into the family and home.

For the children who have been forsaken by their fathers, Lord uphold them in your right hand of righteousness and remind them through your word, when mothers and fathers forsake them, you Lord will lift them up and be a father unto them. Heal them of the pain they may be feeling and fill the void in their heart with your Spirit.

Thank you dear God for choosing us to be a part of your wonderful family – you are simply the best Father that anyone could ever have. Thank you for being there for us on every occasion – promising never to leave us nor forsake us.

Thank you for providing us with our daily bread – spiritually, physically, emotionally. Lord there is none like you, no one to compare with you and no one else could ever take your place. You are simply the best Father that anyone could ever have!
