How To Stand Firm Daily In Spiritual Battles
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. (v 11) Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. (v 12) For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” ~ Ephesians 6:10-12 NIV
There is not a day that goes by that you and I are not encountering some form of spiritual battle or an enemy attack in our lives; if not directly, then it is indirectly through our family members, friends, associates, business partner or a neighboring country.
None of us are immune! Attacks and spiritual battles could be someone else doing wrong and hurting us physically or emotionally. The same injury can be done and you hurt yourself by way of your own negative thoughts and subsequently negative self-talk or through your personal struggles and weaknesses.
Regardless, we face an enemy who is real and vicious with each attack – especially on those who are Christians and are living authentically as the light of this dark world and the salt of this unsavoury world. Rest assured you will not go for very long periods without facing attacks.
My Personal Testimony:
I want to share with you that since the start of 2017, I noted that I have come under relentless attacks! During the entire time my eyes of discernment were opened wide to spot the evil that went on around me as I observed that the attacks that were launched at me were coming from those I least expected to do so.
I took careful note of how easy it was is for one to end up on the slippery slope of becoming an instrument for unrighteousness to undermine the work that God has purposed me to do rather than them being the instrument for righteousness to support and uphold the will of God for my life.
Today however, I am feeling my very best – no pain, no discomfort, no struggles, no wrestling and absolutely no issues. I am at peace first with God, with myself, with my calling and my purpose! I am in a new place! I have never been more certain or rather confident with what my ministry is and what my focus must now be to the glory and honor of God. It is not what’s wrong anymore, but what has changed on the inside of me!
The Bible says, we overcome [triumph, conquer] the adversary by the blood of the Lamb and by the words of our testimony. (Revelation 12:10) Therefore, telling others what God has done for us and through us in the affliction or the oppression, we strengthen and encourage each other each to extend their faith and increase their hope in our infinite God.
Those of you that are my Facebook friends would recall a testimony that I shared with you a few days ago Monday February 6th, 2017. For ease of reference here is what I posted:
“It doesn’t matter what we are going through, God wants us to be vessels that will carry His glory in the earth. He is even more glorified when you and I are having our worst moment and can still find the time to speak to others about His goodness, put a smile on their face and bring hope to them as well. Yesterday after church I had reason to go in the supermarket. Truth be told, I was not feeling my best. I felt the sting of disappointment among other things going on with me. Did I let the Devil drag me down in the dirt? Did I wallow in self-pity? Did I complain? NO!!! What did I do? As I walked the supermarket isle, turned my disappointment into my next appointment! I put a PRAISE on it!!! I broke out in a praise in the isle, people paused and took notice! One lady wanted to know what exactly was going on. I said, “THe Devil trying to mess with me, but I decided to put a praise on my situation, and take him out instead!!” She said, “God is awesome!” You sure bet He is!! I kept on praising my God!!” #empowermentmoments #EMBYvonne
In that moment I proved God that He was right there in that supermarket with me. He felt my pain and my discomfort. My heart was broken but by sending forth praise unto His holy name, brought me into His presence for immediate healing and mending of my brokenness. It solidified in my mind that it is never about us ot the present difficulty that we are going through, but our attitude and the response we give when the door of opportunity swings wide open right before us!
How To Stand Firm Daily Going Through Spiritual Battles
If you are going through tough times today, know that you are not alone and neither has God left you to fight on your own. The question for you then becomes, “how do I stand firm daily as I go through my own daily spiritual battles?” Here are 9 ways you or someone you know can stand firm –
1) Commit whatever it is to God
Psalm 37:4 says, “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” God do not want you to try and fix things on your own and neither would He leave you up to yourself to fight any battle on your own. Stress comes when you fail to recognize the hands of God in the matter. But the moment you acknowledge God that He is in total control and you surrender the problem to Him, you are set free to focus on other things that bring glory, honor to God and peace to your heart.
2) Put on and keep on your spiritual armor
The Bible speaks about wearing the full armor of God each day as your spiritual protection and so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. (Ephesians 6:11) God’s full armor consists of the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of His righteousness, the shield of faith, the truth of His word which guard your loins and your feet covered the gospel of His peace. Without God’s full armor you are exposed to all the elements of life.
3) Stand firm in your faith in God
Faith is the currency of the Kingdom of God. Whatever your situation, you please God when you remain firm and resolute in your faith knowing that without faith, it is impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6)
4) Stand firm on the word of God
Kingdoms will fall no matter how well established they are. Wars will cease. Heaven and earth will pass away but the Bible also says that God’s word will never pass away. At the end of the day, His word is all we have to stand on.
5) Praise God continually
We are reminded in God’s word that praise is comely. The Bible also says that God inhabits or dwells right in the praises of His people “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.” (Psalm 22:3) David went through many testing and trials but his confidence remained in God to the point where he affirmed his commitment to bless [praise] God at all times, whether in the good or in the bad.
6) Turn your disappointment into your God given appointment
Opportunity have a way of knocking at your door when all hell is breaking loose in your life. Make a conscious effort not to focus on the negative or the problem that you have absolutely no control over. See the silver lining beneath the dark cloud.
7) Share with others
Sometimes when we have a problem or we are going through difficulties and hardships, our ability to see the bigger picture or to think outside of what’s happening at the moment is narrowed. We think that we are the only one having the problem. It’s only after you share with others or even a trusted friend, you begin to get your groove back, your hope come alive and you gain a fresh perspective and a better outlook on life and you are now able o move forward.
8) Celebrate what God is doing in another person’s life
I recognize that it is hard to celebrate someone else’s victory and what God is doing in their life when yours is a complete mess. But the Bible commands us to rejoice with those who rejoice (Romans 12:15) When you celebrate with another what God has done or is doing for them, you are saying to God through your faith that your breakthrough and your victory is about to manifest in the earth. Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. (Psalm 30:5)
9) Pray without ceasing
Prayer is like the blood that flows through your body. Not only are you to remain watchful and always in prayer about your life, your needs or what you are going through, you pray for others and their needs as well. Without prayer, you run the risk of fainting. (Luke 18:1)
